About me

Welcome! I’m Gui (short for Guilherme and pronounced as “gui” in “guitar”).

I am 5th-year PhD candidate in the Department of Physics at Purdue University working with Claudio Chamon in condensed matter theory. My research is focused on strongly correlated systems and quantum field theories. I transferred to Purdue from Boston University, where I spent four years before continuing my PhD alongside my advisor.

Research Interests

Among other topics, I’m highly interested in

  • Effective field theories and continuum limits of microscopic lattice systems;
  • Generalized notions of symmetries, particularly non-invertible, subsystem, and modulated symmetries, and how they give rise to rich structures in higher-dimensional systems;
  • Topologically ordered systems, as FQHE, quantum spin liquids, and fractons
  • Engineering quantum matter in mesoscopic systems
